DESCRIPTION:Bulevard presents a solo exhibition by Ilir Kaso, opening at Galeria Hermon Madhi, the gallery space of the Jordan Misja Artistic High School in Tirana, opening on October 30th at 18:00.\nThe exhibition explores the life and practice of Ilir Kaso, spanning twenty years of artistic experimentation and his engagement with both institutional and independent art education in Albania.\nChallenging the meaning of an artist retrospective, Kaso invites us to reflect on: What does it mean to return? And how do we learn in the process? The six selected works—drawn from Kaso’s extensive and lifelong artistic production across various media—are curated as an invitation to pause. By imagining each work as a ‘lesson’ the artist gives space and time to the act of self-narration, confronting tensions between the personal and the political. Kasos’s work traces a life in which generational trauma, migration, environment, conflict, and friendship can be reimagined as spaces of mutual care amid isolation and fear.\nThe “+1” in the exhibition title is a reminder that, as participants in an art system, our current political and historical moment calls on us to attend to the margins within ourselves, reclaim our capacity to play and shift it from favouring individual careers to generating collective dissent.\n🍀\nIlir Kaso (1982 in Përmet, Albania, lives and works in Tirana).\nSince graduating in Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana in 2005, Kaso’s engaged with a variety of media including sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, video art, animation and installation. In the last decade Kaso’s practice has grown into community work exploring a variety of subjects including ecology and urban space. In 2020 he funded Trekëndor, a project space for children exploring art and education. Kaso’s work has been widely exhibited locally and internationally. Since 2006 he has taught at the University of the Arts (former Academy of Fine Arts) in Tirana.
